Izmir is a city on the Aegean coast of western Turkey. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, summers are hot and dry while winters are rainy and mild. Knowing the unique features of each season can be helpful when planning your trip to Izmir.

Winter Months: December, January, February ❄️

Winters are mild with average temperatures ranging from 5-10 degrees Celsius. It’s rare, but on some days in December and January, temperatures might drop below 0 degrees. Although hail may occur occasionally, snow is quite rare. Winters are generally rainy, with some weeks seeing hardly any sunshine. The weather is mostly mild, though evenings tend to feel cooler compared to daytime.

Clothing Recommendations: Wear warm clothes like sweaters, coats, scarves, and hats. Boots or similar footwear are advised. Carrying an umbrella is also beneficial ☔.

Spring Months: March, April, May 🌸

Spring in Izmir is when temperatures gradually rise and nature revives. Temperatures in March range from 10-15 degrees Celsius, climbing to 20-25 degrees by May. Rainfall decreases and sunny days increase during this period.

Clothing Recommendations: Light jackets, cardigans, and long-sleeved clothes are suitable. On sunny days, wearing a hat and sunglasses can be beneficial 😎.

Summer Months: June, July, August 🌞

Summers are quite hot, with temperatures varying between 30-40 degrees Celsius and occasionally exceeding 40 degrees. Rainy days are rare during summer, and if it rains, the sun usually comes out soon after. Walking outdoors during the daytime can be challenging, and on some days, there might be advisories to stay indoors due to the heat.

Clothing Recommendations: Choose light-colored clothes that do not retain heat, hats, sunglasses, thin or linen dresses and pants, t-shirts, and shorts. Sandals or summer shoes are recommended for footwear.

Fall Months: September, October, November 🍂

Fall is generally rainier compared to spring. September is one of the ideal months for both swimming in the sea and enjoying cooler walks through the streets of Izmir. Temperatures in September still range between 25-30 degrees Celsius, dropping to 15-20 degrees by November. As November approaches, rain frequency increases and the weather gradually cools.

Clothing Recommendations: Light jackets, sweaters, trousers, and closed shoes are suitable. Carrying an umbrella or raincoat is again beneficial ☔.
